Platform Tennis Truths/Myths

Hi Everyone,
Although some of you have already started to create your own clinic group, I would like to invite everyone to come play platform tennis (paddle tennis)  at Edgewood Bath. Clinics are scheduled at your convenience; you just need to get 3 people the pro plays in and instructs at the same time.  If you are unfamiliar with Platform Tennis, here is a good link that gives you a lot of info about the game…
“I don’t think I should do it because it will hurt my tennis game”
….This is a common misconception because other racquet sports like racquetball and squash do hurt your tennis game. Paddle is very similar to tennis and REALLY helps your net game especially. You are in continental grip a lot, which is the same grip you are supposed to use in tennis for all volleys and overheads. One of the quickest ways to improve from a 3.0/3.5 to a 4.0/4.5 rated tennis player is to master the continental grip and improve your ability to end the point at the net. The action is non stop and quick in paddle which will improve your reaction and hand eye coordination in tennis. Here is a good article talking about the relationship between tennis and paddle.
“But it’s too cold to play outside in the winter”
… very valid concern, lol, and no we won’t play when it’s extremely cold. The court is small, and action is fast, and there is not a lot of down time between points like in tennis so you are constantly moving. Points generally last longer because of the ability to play the ball off the screens surrounding the court. The surface is heated which dries it out so you don’t slip.

End of Summer Pool/Snack Bar Hours

Dear Members:
It is hard to believe that August is already upon us. With that turn of the calendar, we start to see our university and high school student lifeguards, kitchen staff, and managers begin to leave us for campus or sports practices. As our staff departs, I want to thank them for the support that they provide not only the club, but more importantly the membership.
